Graphic Design History

The Graphic Design Department at Noroff is planning a pop-up exhibition at their Bergen campus to make other students aware of their course and graphic design as a discipline. One section of the exhibition will be about the styles that emerged in graphic design from 1950-1980 and will feature leaflets for visitors to take home as souvenirs.

In this project, I designed A CREATIVELY FOLDED LEAFLET (42 x 14 cm) with visually striking graphics telling the story of four styles in graphic design from 1950-1980.

Each period/style must be easy to spot and feature a short paragraph describing the period/style and the social events that influenced each period, and should also feature at least three names of influential graphic designers. Each period/style must be accompanied by a unique graphic element created by myself. The following must be included:

  • New Wave/Punk Style (ca. 1970-mid-1980s)
  • International Typographic Style/Swiss Style (ca. 1950-late 1960s)
  • Pop Art Style (ca. 1950-1970)
  • Psychedelic Poster Style (ca. 1960-mid-1970s)

Logo Design (typography design) & Cover Design

This concept was designed for the youth, so I picked ORANGE (#f1592a) for the primary because it’s associated with optimism and energy. Many brands use orange to convey a mes-sage of positivity. If you’re looking to get your audience excited about something, go for orange. It’s an attention-grabbing, warm color that really pops when combined with cool or contrast color.
